The DC Studios plan of attack for their first phase, Gods and Monsters, surprisingly didn’t include Wonder Woman. After Batman and Superman, the heroine is their most-popular female character and one that’s been a pop culture icon since her debut. Now, according to Variety, the studio is rethinking that absence. They’re reporting that sources have told them that after the success of Superman the past weekend, they are fast-tracking a Wonder Woman movie. The same sources are telling them that they’re also thrilled with the recent draft for The Batman 2 from Matt Reeves.

It was a weekend of success for DC and Warner Bros. after a tumultuous period with both companies. James Gunn and Peter Safran took over the reins of DC and rebranded it as DC Studios. They then announced a slate of projects including Superman, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, Batman: The Brave and the Bold, and others. The whole thing hinged on the success of Superman, which opened to a $220 million weekend.

Wonder Woman was previously played by Gal Gadot, but there’s no word on who DC Studios is looking at for their updated version of the character.

Other Interesting Bits About Superman

Superman was written and directed by James Gunn. Normally the actors in a big budget film like this make more than the director, but in this case it was the other way around. Gunn made about $15 million from directing and writing the film, in addition to his seven-figure salary as an executive. David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan both made $750,000 for their roles and have options for sequels from WB. Nicholas Hoult, who plays Lex Luthor in the film, earned $2 million for his role, which tracks, seeing as how he’s a bigger name and box office draw than Corenswet and Brosnahan at this point in his career.

DC Studios is hinging on a bigger box office haul from Superman in the following weeks, but for now, it looks like it’ll be a success. That of course, is tainted by the massive box office period from 2010-2019 where we had multiple billion dollar films, but a time where streaming wasn’t as big as it is now. People do need to realize that a film getting over a billion at the box office is something more rare than ever now. We’ll have to see how DC Studios and Warner Bros. reacts to box office totals.
