DC Studios is in the full swing of things with the release of Superman in theaters. Their plan for Gods And Monsters, the first phase of movies, TV, and other media is already going, but that first wave didn’t include Wonder Woman. Now, it appears that they’re fast tracking a Wonder Woman movie. James Gunn has been outspoken on finding the best talent for the positions available at DC Studios and according to our friends at The Wrap, he’s found a familiar face to write Wonder Woman. They’re reporting that Ana Nogueira is now on board to write the film. She previously wrote Supergirl, which is in post-production and the live action Teen Titans.

James Gunn previously announced that a Wonder Woman movie was in development alongside a series called Paradise Island for HBO. That show would focus on the superhero’s homeland of Themyscira and on which Gunn says development is “slow moving, but it’s moving.”

Wonder Woman was previously played by Gal Gadot starting in 2017. Her take on the character was a popular one with a massively successful first movie, and another one that was released in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. She also made appearances in Batman V Superman and Justice League. Before all of the turmoil at DC and Warner Bros., they were in the middle of developing a third film with Patty Jenkins returning as director.

After James Gunn and Peter Safran took over DC Studios, they chose to reboot the character, rather than bring Gadot back in the fold.

Supergirl Incoming

The upcoming Supergirl film from Nogueira is based on the Tom King comic of the same name. It shows off a darker, more mature version of the character than people expect from Superman’s cousin. She’s being played by Milly Alcock, and you can see a small taste of her character in Superman. That film is being directed by Craig GIllespie and should fly into theaters on June 26th, 2026.
