In A Violent Nature was a slasher movie that turned the genre on its head, taking a route to follow the killer instead of the victims. The sequel to that film is heading for production in September in Canada, according to Variety.

The original film was written and directed by Chris Nash and premiered worldwide at the Sundance Film Festival in 2024. It was released theatrically on May 31st, 2024. It follows Johnny, a vengeful, undead killer who embarks on a bloody rampage after a group of teens steal a golden locket that awakened his spirit.

In A Violent Nature starred Ry Barrett, Andrea Pavlovic, and Lauren-Marie Taylor.

Here’s what we had to say about In A Violent Nature in our review.

“The cinematography is beautiful. If you like long shots of the woods that are framed beautifully, this movie is for you. The kills are violent and bloody, reminiscent of the power that slasher villains have sort of lacked in recent years. In A Violent Nature, it almost feels like it was better as an idea than in execution, and there could have been something quite different done with this idea.

The movie we get, though, is still an excellent exercise in horror filmmaking. In A Violent Nature might not be for everyone, but this is a film worth watching and then rewatching.”

Here’s what producer Peter Kuplowsky had to say about the sequel.

“‘In a Violent Nature’ was originally conceived as a meta-sequel within a fictional slasher series, so we were always imagining mayhem beyond the scope of the original film. That we now have the opportunity to continue following Johnny on his restless walk has us feeling incredibly grateful to our incredible partners at IFC Films / Shudder who believed in Chris’ vision from day one. We are thrilled to return for a new chapter and are excited to deploy Johnny as a conduit to further experiments in the genre.”
