Ricky Gervais is a name fans of comedy might be familiar with. Briitsh comedy, specifically. That’s because he’s the co-creator, co-writer, and often co-actor in many famous British comedies such as The Office (not to be confused with the American version of the show), Extras, and After Life. Fans of the Night at the Museum trilogy might also recall that he played the museum director with quite a bit of comedic theatrics. Thus, you can all understand why Netflix would be so eager to snap him up for this.
Netflix is proud to announce an upcoming new adult animated series called Alley Cats from Ricky Gervais. In fact, Gervais himself will be part of the voice cast, which also includes Tom Basden, Andrew Brooke, David Earl, Kerry Godliman, Jo Hartley, Diane Morgan, and also featuring Natalie Cassidy, and Tony Way. Blink Industries (Dead End: Paranormal Park, Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared) will be the animation studio behind this series. As for what this show is about? Well, you can find out for yourself sometime in 2026, when this series will debut on Netflix. However, we do have a bit of a synopsis from Netflix to shed light on this mysterious new series. You can read that below:
“Alley Cats is a slacker sitcom created by and starring the multi award-winning Ricky Gervais. The adult animation follows the trials and tribulations of a group of feral British cats from all walks of society, who seek companionship while ruminating on everyday life. From the funny to the absurd, the series is packed with Gervais’ signature style of heart and social commentary that audiences have come to expect.”
Alley Cats from Ricky Gervais Premiering on Netflix Soon-ish

I have to admit: this is a most unexpected bit of news from Netflix. And yet, it’s not that surprising in hindsight. After all, Netflix has been going on a bit of an adult animation funding expedition for a while now. They’re definitely looking to expand their catalogue of animation specifically for adults to enjoy. And well, who better to do that than the creator of The Office himself? I do believe that we will be looking forward to what Ricky Gervais has planned for Alley Cats. It’s just a matter of waiting to see when we’ll get to see that.
