Do you remember…the playlist for the Guardians of the Galaxy attraction Cosmic Rewind? It’s ok if you don’t, especially if your next visit is slated to take place on September 21st. If those two hints didn’t set off some disco-flavored alarm bells, it’s ok. Just know that if you’re going to Epcot in the future, and have a strange aversion to Earth, Wind, & Fire, you’ve been warned.
Announced through the Disney Parks Instagram account, the in-ride soundtrack on that very date in question will solely consist of Earth, Wind & Fire’s “September.” Apologies in advance for anyone who had hoped to finally get “Everybody Wants To Rule The World,” as well as the commenters that really wanted that Livin’ with the Land Flute Ambiance. (All six of you…)

To my knowledge, this sort of special treatment has never been given to Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind prior to 2025. Also, you could do a lot worse when it comes to on-board radio for an amusement park ride – especially when most normal examples of such things operate on a static soundtrack.
At the same time, a Disney Parks spectacle that’s influenced by a James Gunn movie needs two things: a kick-ass Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack and the warmly threatening aura of Rocket Raccoon. Not to mention, the name “Cosmic Rewind” implies that music is going to be important. Just ask all of the people who stand in line on any given day, humming their tune of choice as they hope Star-Lord’s randomized jukebox will favor their mood of the moment.
Which brings us back to “September,” which oddly enough was actually released on November 18, 1978. While that overshoots the date Maurice White and Phillip Bailey were crooning about by roughly two months, it does actually align with a huge date in Disney history – Mickey Mouse’s 50th birthday. Coincidence? Yeah, probably. But that’s something else to think about as you wait in line at the Wonders of Xandar pavilion, for your turn on Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind! You can currently board that return trip to the Big Bang and back, only at Walt Disney World’s Epcot Center.
