David S. Goyer is one of the most accomplished and prolific screenwriters in Hollywood. He’s worked on plenty of movies and shows, and even has a new season of Foundation out now on AppleTV+. Our friend Brandon Davis of Phase Hero sat down with Goyer and gave us an exclusive preview of their upcoming episode and they talked all things Foundation but also got to talking about some of Goyer’s previous work like Blade. Here’s what he had to say about the viral moment from Deadpool & Wolverine about Blade.
“I was crazy because I had heard rumors that there were going to be some crazy surprises in Deadpool & Wolverine,” Goyer said. “So, I deliberately avoided… I just didn’t want to hear about it and my kids go! I’ve got three sons. So, we went in, saw the movie together, and that happened. And I was just like, ‘Holy crap!’ Never in a million years, I would not have expected that.“
He went on to talk more about the moment with Blade.
“Look, I was delighted. And I think in part it also came out of this sort of meta narrative because Marvel had so many problems trying to do the new Blade movie that I know it was Ryan’s idea and he just proposed it and they said, ‘Screw it, why not?’ At the very least, it’ll get the character back in the public conscience.’”
