“Beware Satan.” That’s all we’ve got for a tagline when it comes to writer/director Lotfy Nathan’s upcoming film The Carpenter’s Son; and the newly released teaser doesn’t fill in too many blanks either. What it does to though is tease Nicolas Cage in a visually striking 2025 fall movie that’s obviously playing with faith and humanity. So, of course, I’m all in.

However you’re mileage may vary – so you owe it to yourself to take a look at The Carpenter’s Son teaser with your own eyes:

Co-starring FKA twigs, Noah Jupe, and Isla Johnston, this is the polar opposite of the feel-good movies you see in theaters that you’d expect when you hear the word “faith” invoked. If anything, and this could be my college film courses talking, the first movie I thought of was Luis Buñuel’s Simon of the Desert. Only instead of the dryly comic absurdity of that piece, we’ve now got holy dread. I think that’s where The Carpenter’s Son wins me over the most.

By nature, the subject of religion contains both the ecstasy of hoping for something better, as well as the agony of punishment. The battle between God and Satan for our immortal soul could be considered the first horror story any person ever comes in contact with, and that conflict seems to be front and center in this trailer.

And poor Nicolas Cage seems to be caught up in all of it, screaming to the heavens for answers; which is natural when images like the one above are presented to any normal human being. It looks like another hell of a performance from Cage, who according to Greek publication Prothema was “attacked by a swarm of wild bees in a cave” during production. Admittedly it’s not the weirdest, or even the most lethal, thing to happen when making a picture about religious themes. We’ll see how heavy things get on the screen, when The Carpenter’s Son hits theaters on an unknown date, in Fall 2025 A.D.
