Regretting You is ready to pull at your heartstrings in theaters this weekend and That Hashtag Show has seen the film. We had the privilege to talk with Sam Morelos about their fan-favorite character Lexie. The actor was absolutely spot on when they mentioned that you have to keep your head on a swivel dealing with Colleen Hoover stories. (Regretting You is based on the 2019 novel from the beloved author.)

There’s always a few bombshell reveals in these stories and the movie version of Regretting You is no different in that regard. So, be prepared to be surprised and moved when you settle into your seat in the theater.

I mentioned the emotional peaks and valleys in this story and the star agreed. Morelos said, “[Regretting You] is so enjoyable. But, I’m also clenching everything. Like, ‘What is going to happen?’”

We did a little joking about how much anxiety sets in every time someone gets into a car in Regretting You, and our friend is in the same boat. “That’s so funny, because true,” Morelos admitted. “Absolutely, you don’t know, it’s Colleen Hoover! Every car is a suspect!”

Sam Morelos talks being the best friend everyone would want in Regretting You

Regretting You

When you watch Regretting You for yourself, one thing becomes really clear, we all need a Lexie in our lives. Yes, the movie might revolve around Clara and Morgan Grant. (Played by the delightful Mckenna Grace and Allison Williams.) We talked to the actor about being inspired by their own family for shaping the kind of supportive relationship that Clara and Lexie share.

“I’m constantly inspired by my own friends… they’ve seen me at my doggone worst,” Morelos explained. “It’s like, why are you still here? What are you doing? It’s those people that keep me afloat. They’re the reason they can do all the things, all the crazy things I can do without them, right?”

They added, alluding to their friends and boyfriend, “I can take inspiration from the ride-or-dies in my life. And, then say, ‘Lexie is that for Clara. How can I be Sun or Warren [Riley]? How can I support you?’ So, just taking inspiration from the people in my life, and they are how I want to be as a friend too. My friends make me a better friend.”

Forgetting You is ready to charm theaters on October 24.
