What is that sound? It’s thousands of film fans getting exactly what they wanted. Deadline is reporting that Michael B. Jordan is in talks to star in the upcoming Universal adaptation of Miami Vice. Joseph Kosinski (F1, Top Gun: Maverick) is on board to direct the film.
Jordan would portray Ricardo Tubbs, who was originally played by Phillip Michael Thomas in the 80s show and by Jamie Foxx in the Michael Mann-directed film from the 2000s.
Eric Warren Singer and Dan Gilroy are writing the script with Dylan Clark and Kosinski producing the film. It has a tentative release date of August 6th, 2027. This version of the adaptation will take the series back to the 1980s exploring the drugs, glamour, corruption, and hopefully pastel colors of Miami at the time. It’ll be inspired by the pilot episode and first season of Miami Vice, the TV series.
The original series saw Don Johnson and Phillip Michael Thomas team up as Sonny Crockett and Ricardo Tubbs taking on Miami. It was one of the most landmark TV series in history. Without Miami Vice, we would not have the prestige TV we have today.
There are plenty of rumors about who might play Crockett in the film, but there aren’t any names currently attached.
We’ll keep you updated on Miami Vice news as we get it.
