When the live-action Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas made its original theatrical debut on November 17, 2000, it was…not quite a veritable hit. Yes, it was a box office success. After all, it grossed $347 million worldwide, thus allowing the film to become the highest-grossing film of 2000 around the globe. However, critics had a more mixed reception to the film. With praises for the performances and visual effects but criticisms for its dark humor and tone (mostly due to Jim Carrey in the starring role), you can tell that critics were having a hard time deciding if the film was good or not. Still, the film ended up becoming a cult classic in spite of that. You can see that now with today’s story.

Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment are proud to announce an upcoming theatrical re-release of Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas. All to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the film’s original theatrical debut. As for this re-release, you can see this film in theaters on December 12, 2025. Advance tickets are currently available from Fandango.

As part of this announcement, Universal Pictures also have a 25th anniversary trailer for Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas. You can watch that on YouTube, or just look below:

You can already tell from this poster that this is an…odd film.

Honestly, this re-release of Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas is going to be a real treat. Especially for Jim Carrey fans, since he puts much of his oddball personality into this incarnation of the Grinch. If you want a weirdly dark film to watch this Christmas, this is going to be it.
