Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone are developing a film about Miss Piggy. The iconic Muppet is set to appear once more on the big screen in a film penned by Tony Award winner Cole Escola.

Lawrence announced the project on Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers’ Las Culturistas podcast. “Emma Stone and I are producing a Miss Piggy movie and Cole is writing it.” Actor and writer Cole Escola is the mind behind the recent Broadway hit, Oh Mary!, where they played a version of Mary Todd Lincoln.

When asked if she and real-life friend Enna Stone would appear in the movie, she said.“I think so, we have to.” The duo has never appeared on screen together, despite their close off-screen friendship. Jennifer Lawrence is currently promoting her new drama, Die My Love, alongside Robert Pattinson, in which she plays a new mother.

This upcoming project will see the first time Miss Piggy has appeared solo on-screen. She first debuted in 1976’s The Muppet Show and has had numerous big and small screen appearances since. While she has frequently stolen the show from her co-stars, she has never officially headlined her own story.

Miss Piggy started as a background player on The Muppet Show but quickly became a fan favorite due to her eccentric, egocentric behavior and on/off relationship with her boyfriend Kermit. She was last seen in the TV series The Muppets Mayhem, which was cancelled by Disney+ in 2023 after just one season.

This isn’t the first Muppets project currently in the pipeline. To celebrate their 70th birthday, Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s Point Grey Pictures are re-making The Muppet Show. Deadline has also reported Sabrina Carpenter to premiere in 2026, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the original series.
