These days the marketing windows of major releases seem to be shrinking; save for a few mythic titles. While 2025 fall movies like Tron: Ares have been on a relatively tight marketing schedule, others like Avatar: Fire and Ash have been hyping the crowd through a longer span. So learning that Avengers: Doomsday’s first teaser will be in theaters before the end of the year isn’t terribly surprising, but it does feel pleasantly nostalgic.
According to reporting via Collider “multiple sources” in Disney’s inner circles have confirmed that the third Avatar picture will be bringing our first look at what Doomsday has to offer. Naturally this isn’t a flat out official studio announcement, so there’s a chance that this strategy could change.
Having made that disclaimer, it wouldn’t be that surprising to see Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom terrorizing audiences right before Christmas. Thanks to Avengers: Doomsday’s previous release date change, The Russo Brothers’ return to the MCU will be bowing one day shy of a year after Fire and Ash. Any movie fans who remember the way things used to go can tell you that sort of span used to be the proper way to sell a major tentpole; especially those with a special summer/winter release date in mind.

Though considering we’ve already seen tons of Avengers: Doomsday casting announcements by this point, you could say this particular endgame kicked off a while ago. Since a first trailer is allegedly on the way, the next phase of discourse will take shape, thanks to the ensuing reactions. Now if someone at Marvel could be convinced to cut a cryptic tease that sees Santa revealed to actually be Doctor Doom, that’d be a very holly jolly throwback that’d keep everyone talking.
We’re still counting down to The Avengers’ theatrical return on December 18, 2026. However the wait for Avatar: Fire and Ash is much more manageable, thanks to its December 19th, 2025 release date.
