Josh Safdie’s trailer for Marty Supreme is finally here! Timothee Chalamet stars in this unique 1950’s tale of one man’s quest for dominance. This time, Marty Supreme is a table tennis hustler who has to prove his worth in between, admittedly, small lines. There are women, familial dramas, and of course all the ping pong you can stomach in the new trailer. Check out what Safdie has for all of us with Marty Supreme up top.

The latest Safdie effort was co-written with Ronald Bronstein. It’s been a big year for the family with Benny releasing the smashing machine earlier this year. For the Lettrboxd set, Marty Supreme also represents a reunion with Uncut Gems cinematographer Darius Khondji too! A24 clearly loves these expensive-feeling looks into the human psyche through one charismatic actor.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the director shared a little bit about his influences. It’s not hard to see the moment he received the gift of a table tennis champion’s memoir as an inflection point. From the tale of Marty Reisman, emerged Chalamet’s Marty Mauser and the rest is history.

“My goal was to make it as large as I possibly could,” Safdie told the outlet. “I wanted to honor Marty Mauser’s dream to make it the greatest sport in the world. I like imagining an alternative path of history where the sport did become as big as tennis — and I had to act that way because I was making it from Marty’s point of view.”

Gwyneth Paltrow, Tyler Okoma, Odessa A’zion, Kevin O’Leary, Tyler Okonma, Abel Ferrara and Fran Drescher also star in Marty Supreme.
