A main event weekend is finally here! Avatar: Fire and Ash might be the main event. But, there’s plenty to watch in theaters and at home! That Hashtag Show’s What We’re Watching is living at the movies this week. The Housemaid and SpongeBob’s new movie are getting in on the fun. Let’s take a look at the newest releases this weekend.
Avatar: Fire and Ash – In theaters this weekend

James Camero returns to Pandora with possibly the most gorgeous entry in the Avatar franchise yet. Fire and Ash follows Jake Sully’s brood to a culture of the Na’avi that aren’t quite so easy to get along with. This is a long movie, but one that clearly points the franchise towards whatever is next. A lot has been made about the rotten tomatoes score this time around, but let’s be honest, we’re all going to see it!
The Housemaid – In theaters this weekend
Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried are on their game in this psychological thriller. Fan-favorite director Paul Feig directs the story of how wealth corrupts. Apt for the time! Despite some recent kerfuffles, Sweeney turns in an admirable performance here. The drama might lure you in, but the film will have you talking when the lights come on. The Housemaid might really be the best release of the weekend when we’re talking about a stand-alone story.
The SpongeBob Movie: The Search for SquarePants – In theaters this weekend.
Admit it, you just love seeing this delightful yellow dude dance across your screen. Paramount and Nickelodeon are proud of the latest SpongeBob film. Their pride is well-placed as Search for SquarePants is the best-reviewed SpongeBob movie in the franchise’s history. (85%!) Tom Kenny and Bill Fabernacke are always delightful to hear together. Yes, the Nick staple can be a bit silly, but for a lot of families, that’s exactly what they need right now. No-brainer for an afternoon out with the kids.
Fallout – Streaming on Prime Video

Bethesda has seemingly made everyone on Earth into Fallout fans. It’s hard to disagree when the TV is actually good! Prime Video kicks off Season 2 of the fan-favorite video game adaptation. Viva New Vegas as we uncover more about this world. The first salvo of episodes felt like an introduction that did a great job of rendering bucket list visuals for the masses. Now, we’re on the highway to the unknown with Lucy.
What We’re Watching – Taylor Swift: End of an Era – Streaming on Disney+
The Eras Tour really never comes to a close when you think about it. Swift’s new Disney Plus series takes us back to when those concerts were riding high and the talk of the town was having an arm full of friendship bracelets. Long time swifties will enjoy the pine the curtain look at how these massive shows came together. After the release of The Life of a Showgirl, the performance of this Disney plus special shows that the swift train just keeps on rolling.
