Trigun: Stargaze Teases Massive Finale on Crunchyroll

Trigun: Stargaze is headed towards a massive conclusion on April 11.  Ahead of the big finale, That Hashtag Show got to sit down with the stars of the series. 

Johnny Yong Bosch, Sarah Roach, David Matranga, and Alexis Tipton all sat down with me to talk about the road here. Trigun: Stargaze marks the 30 year celebration of the franchise. That’s a long journey with Vash the Stampede and No Man’s Land.

During our conversation, Bosch, Roach, Matranga, and Tipton all had some different perspective on Trigun. They’ve all been fans of the property at one time or another. And, they’re sad to see this chapter end. Stargaze follows Stampede and the newest iteration of the Humanoid Typhoon has won a lot of people over. Check out what the cast had to say right here!

Being Vash the Stampede

Fresh out of being a “teenager with attitude,” Bosch has been the voice of Vash the Stampede for the entire run here in the United States. When I asked him about the experience of going on this final ride with Trigun, it’s no surprise that the fan-favorite voice actor was feeling reflective.

“Well, I don’t want it to end,” Bosch laughed. “But thankfully, because of the conventions, I can meet fans that do show up in cosplay. And, we get to continue living these experiences later as we rewatch. So, it’ wonderful to be a part of for sure.”

“I love Vash so much that I get what he’s trying to do. And, I’m just there for it. There’s a part of me that’s like, ‘Come on, pull it together,’” he smiled. “But obviously, seeing where things are going, he’s out there trying to make it happen. The big question is whether or not he can make it happen?”

Trigun Stargaze brings us a more grown Meryl

Like all of the cast really, Sarah Roach was a fan of Trigun before she got the call to play Meryl, a beloved anime role, she’s looking to put her mark on our intrepid rider. Meryl went through a lot in Trigun Stampede, and has come out of the other end more assured than she was at the start of the series.

“[Meryl] did start out very green and very eager. I think losing her mentor and everything that happened in lost July hardened her a bit. But, I think it also strengthened her conviction,” Roach pondered. “And, I think that she’s very goal-oriented in Stargazee. Starting out, she doesn’t even know if Vash is alive.” 

“She wants to know what’s going on with these plants that are missing. And, I think she is dedicated to finding out the truth,” the voice actor continued. “Getting out and getting it out there so that people can know what’s going on. I think that’s her way of helping people. Trying to inform everybody.”

Alexis Tipton helps us welcome back Milly

If you were anything like me at the beginning of Trigun Stampede, you were wondering where Milly Thompson was. Luckily for us, the wait wasn’t forever, as Tipton came onto the scene as Meryl’s beloved investigative partner in the original show. Now, the duo is united and hot on the trail of Vash the Stampede.

Tipton began, “It’s been incredible. Yeah, I was aware that fans were really wanting to see her. And, it was just incredible to hear about the reception that her presence has received in the show. It’s just wonderful and it’s exciting to step into voicing a role in English of a character that you already know people are excited about. There’s a lot of pressure with that. But, no it’s been wonderful and she’s such an iconic wonderful character.”

Wolfwood is back too in Trigun Stargaze

Just like you can’t have this show without Bosch’s Vash, you also need Nicholas D. Wolfwood. David Matranga plays the fan-favorite. He considers it such an honor to play the priest in this iteration of Trigun.

“What people feel about the character I also immediately felt that as well,” Matranga told us. “I’m a human, one of the things people tell me when we have a conversation about it is, ‘It’s good to know that you’re as big of a fan of it as we are.’”

“I do feel that the world, the characters, and Wolfwood especially, I absolutely adore getting to step into those shoes and provide the English voice of that is a gift. He’s so Laird, so nuanced. There’s so much in everything. It’s such a pleasure,” he argued. “And in this re-imagining, the cinematic feel of it, it lets you as a voice actor across multiple types of genre. Video games, All of it. There’s a different style that you get to work with. And, it’s exciting. I don’t want it to be gone.”

Trigun Stargaze’s megawatt conclusion to the English Dub hits Crunchyroll on April 11.
