Voice actress Abby Trott has been busy for the last couple years with Demon Slayer and Dan Da Dan. During this year’s stacked San Diego Comic-Con, the star sat down with me in the THS Suite to discuss anime’s increasing popularity, voicing iconic characters like Nezuko and Momo Ayase, and the great thing about being a voice actor. “Right now, the two biggest things I’m involved with are Demon Slayer and Dan Da Dan,’ the actress told us. “And, Dan Da Dan kind of blew up real fast, and it caught me off-guard. It’s funny because no one knows who I am, which I like! But, if I talk to someone and we get into it, and they’re like, ‘Oh, you do voice-over? What are you in?’ If I throw out Demon Slayer or Dan Da Dan, they’re like ‘Oh my god!’”

Trott joked, “Even people who don’t watch the show will be like, ‘Oh the girl with the thing in her mouth?’ It’s like, ‘Yes, it bamboo, and she’s Nezuko and she’s great!’”

Being some of the most popular anime characters of the moment, Trott still isn’t a household name for some fans. Because she’s a voice actor, she’s allowed to experience a lot of big conventions like San Diego Comic-Con like a fan. But, once someone recognizes her, it can be a nice feeling. Although, she likes being able to see how people behave naturally.

“Yesterday, I was on the floor checking out the Demon Slayer Crunchyroll exhibit,” Trott began. “And a Momo cosplayer came up to me and was like, ‘Can you take our picture?’ I was like, ‘Yeah, sure!’ And I took their picture.”

“My partner, who was with me goes, ‘Oh, by the way, this is Abby, the voice actor for Momo and Nezuko.’ Totally blew my cover and they were like ‘Oh my gosh! I was at your panel last year!’ Nobody ever knows who I am. Which, as a voice actor, I like! So I can go about my business and no one knows who I am.”
