Another weekend approaches! That means it’s time for What We’re Watching on That Hashtag Show. We’re guiding you through the next couple days with some high-profile releases. Sony takes us back to the 90s with I Know What You Did Last Summer! SMURFS is also in theaters for our younger friends. Let’s get into what you’re going to be loving this weekend!
I Know What You Did Last Summer – In Theaters This Weekend

Sony is reaching back for pure nostalgia with this horror sequel. I Know What You Did Last Summer is a concept that probably wouldn’t get the rubber stamp these days. “We’re going to cast all of these immediately recognizable young stars and do what to them?!” This revisit takes some real cues from the original movies. Throw some of the modern Scream franchise’s attitude in there as well. If you really love the slasher genre, this one might surprise you with how fun it was!
SMURFS – In Theaters This Weekend

The Smurfs return in a new animated feature. As the posters have informed us, Rihanna is Smurfette! Smurfs is an interesting project this many years on. Music takes center stage this time around as DJ Khaled, Cardi B, and Riri actually contribute to the blue-hued soundtrack. Parents might be in for a bit of a ride, but the kids are going to love the bright colors, silly physical comedy and unfortunately danceable tracks in the new Smurfs.
Eddington – In Theaters This Weekend

And now, to the great frontier. Ari Aster brings us back to black comedy with a Western! Pedro Pascal continues his summer tour of the movies with Joaquin Phoenix, Luke Grimes, Emma Stone, and Austin Butler? This has A24 written all over it. Sheriff Joe Cross and Mayor Ted Garcia have a score to settle. Very very very unique!
Star Trek Strange New Worlds – Streaming on Paramount+
Possibly the strongest show on Paramount+ returns! Paul Wesley’s Captain Kirk is more integrated with Anson Mount’s crew this season. Star Trek fans don’t need to hear this, but you might: more modern iterations of this franchise should learn from this show. Martin Quinn’s Montgomery Scott has been bumped up in stature, as he should!
Untamed – Streaming on Netflix
Eric Bana and Sam Neill in 2025! Yosemite plays host to an intense Western with thriller elements. A National Parks agent is trying to outrun his past in the wilderness. Untamed is beautiful to look at. But, there’s something sinister afoot. Netflix has another limited series for people to sink their hooks into.
The Assessment – Streaming on Hulu
I swear, any reason to put Elizabeth Olsen in here, I will do it. Our former Wanda Maximoff plays opposite Himesh Patel as prospective parents in a nightmare scenario. This sci-fi thriller asks the question, “who gets to be a parent? What hoops would you jump through?” Slightly harrowing, but interesting to sit with this weekend.
The Summer I Turned Pretty – Streaming on Prime Video
Season 3 is here. Jenny Han’s beloved trilogy of books reaches the final chapters on Prime Video. Lola Tung has been a delight over the show’s run. Those Fisher boys are still setting her heart aflutter. But, what does our main character, Isabel really want? Perfect Summer streaming material for a long day, in my opinion.
Zarna Garg: Practical People Win – Streaming on Hulu
Giving our girl a shout out here because I came across some bits from this special on social media. Zarna’s comedy is pointed, funny and joyful. Despite what apps would have you believe, comedy is not dying or in danger. Her work here is an example of how this genre can expand to delight people.
