Lilo & Stitch is the first $1 billion movie of 2025. Walt Disney Studios touted the film passing this mark today in a release. The Motion Picture Association certified Lilo & Stitch as the first movie to reach that milestone. Disney’s live-action remake has notched $416 million at the domestic box office and $584 million overseas. This movie shifted to theatrical from streaming. But, the proof is in the pudding.
Alan Bergman, the Co-Chairman of Disney Entertainment celebrates the achievement: “We knew there was a lot of love for ‘Lilo & Stitch’ with audiences around the world, yet we never take that for granted, and we’re proud of how this new film has connected with people. I’m thankful to our filmmakers, our cast, and all on our Studio team who have made this film such a success, and we look forward to more adventures with these characters ahead.”
Some other staggering numbers for Lilo & Stitch include that wild $183 million opening over a four day frame. That’s the biggest debut weekend for Memorial Day on-record. Only two movies have passed $400 million domestically this year, with A Minecraft Movie being the other one.
