Moana’s live action remake just dropped a new poster and the first trailer from the upcoming blockbuster. Next July, audiences can visit Hawaii again and see one of their favorite heroines on the big screen. Last year, Moana 2 was an absolute juggernaut on the big screen. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Catherine Laga’aia star as Maui and Moana in this new adventure. Check out the trailer now.
“Aloha everyone, from beautiful Hawai’i,” The Rock previously said on social media. “We are here on the island of Oahu, where I did a lot of my growing up. As you know, Hawaii means so much to my family and me. And, the traditions of our Ohana, or Aiga as we say in Samoa, were shaped by these incredible islands. We are so excited to announce that a live action reimagining of Moana is in the works.”
Johnson goes on to list all the iconic characters that audiences have grown to love over the two Moana films will be present in the new movie. With the success of Lilo and Stitch this year, and the prospective juggernaut of Zootopia 2 on the way, there’s a sunny disposition around Disney animated movie properties lately.

Disney’s latest live-action remake has a new synopsis. “In Disney’s live-action reimagining of the beloved Oscar®-nominated animated adventure, Moana (Catherine Lagaʻaia) answers the Ocean’s call and, for the first time, voyages beyond the reef of her island of Motunui with the infamous demigod Maui (Dwayne Johnson) on an unforgettable journey to restore prosperity to her people.”
“The film is directed by Emmy® and Tony Award® winner Thomas Kail (“Hamilton”); produced by Dwayne Johnson, Beau Flynn, Dany Garcia, Hiram Garcia and Lin-Manuel Miranda; and executive produced by Thomas Kail, Scott Sheldon, Charles Newirth and Auliʻi Cravalho, who voiced Moana in the animated features “Moana” and “Moana 2.” Audiences can experience the brilliant cinematic sights, sounds and songs of “Moana” in U.S. theaters on July 10, 2026.”
