Fans of Avatar: The Last Airbender might be aware that we’re going to get a feature-length animated film one of these days. Not surprising, really, given how popular the franchise is. What is surprising though is the fact that it will be about the Gaang. However, it will be a story of the Gaang many, many years after their original adventures. Hence the title The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender.
Fans too might be familiar with the name Steven Yeun. After all, he voiced the very first Avatar, Avatar Wan, in The Legend of Korra. It was only for three episodes, but it cemented his fame in the Avatar fandom. Thus, you might expect that he will reprise his original role in this upcoming feature-length film, right?
Well, alas, you would be wrong. IGN has just confirmed that at SDCC 2025, Steven Yeun will not be reprising his original role for the upcoming The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender. Rather, he will be voicing Zuko. Yes, that’s right. This is straight out of the mouths of cretors Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, so we know that to be true.
So naturally, the next question was whether Steven Yeun would be reprising his other role as Avatar Wan? Alas, the creators would not budge on that subject. Thus, we can only find out when The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender will make its way to theaters on October 9, 2026. Not only that, but it will be the first entry in a planned trilogy to boot. We’ll be back on this with more info as we get closer to that planned release date.
Steven Yeun as Zuko Instead of Dante Basco

Now this is quite the eye-opener, but not a surprising one. Since The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender takes place many years after the original Avatar: The Last Airbender series, it only makes sense that the voice actors would be a bit older. Steven Yeun is still an interesting choice though, since Dante Basco originally voiced Zuko. Why they didn’t tap Basco for that role is still a mystery, but alas, it will be a mystery that stay unsolved unless we get more info on the matter.
