Black Butler -Emerald Witch Arc- Ep. 13 “His Butler, Submerged” and the three previous episodes concludes this latest season of the Black Butler anime. Not only that, but it’s a fitting end to this dark and bloody fairy tale. One in which the witch finds a new path for herself. With Ciel and the Phantomhive staff’s help, of course.

Black Butler -Emerald Witch Arc- Ep. 10-13: The Good

The story of Black Butler -Emerald Witch Arc- has finally concluded with Ep. 13 “His Butler, Submerged”, and indeed, it’s a magnificent ending to an equally as magnificent anime. Let’s start with the why. If you’ve been watching this anime from the start or came here as a fan of Yana Toboso’s manga, then you already know why. -Emerald Witch Arc- continues the trend of the anime providing you with the greatest in emotional highs and lows. All to the tune of a dark fantasy story that reveals itself to be an…alternate history and sci-fi story?
Yeah, that’s right. It’s the reveal of the supernatural elements of the arc being the result of chemical weapons that’s what makes it so fascinating as a story. All without Sieglinde’s knowledge to boot. Really, the entire story arc is great because of how she shapes the narrative like that. From her finding out that she’s essentially been used all her life to invent new and horrible ways to kill people and then her thrilling escape from that lie, she’s the epicenter of the entire narrative. And yet, she’s not quite treated as a damsel in distress. Yes, the cast do rescue her from her circumstances. However, Sieglinde keeps maintaining control of the story from start to finish, and the whole arc is framed as the result of her decisions. It does prevent her tale from becoming stereotypical, in my opinion.
To complement the whole thing, we also have the amazing animation from CloverWorks. Their animation team really worked overtime to deliver such a great-looking anime. It’s not just in the food department either, although I’m definitely giving a kudos to how good the food looks. Seriously, the tea has that translucent look that actual tea has where you can see the inside of the cup through the shallower parts. No though, the rest of the animation gets a kudos from me too. Of notable mention is the sea crashing against the shore, which looks almost photorealistic. The animation for this whole arc is just peak, and I hope it continues to the next arc.
Black Butler -Emerald Witch Arc- Ep. 10-13: The Bad

Honestly, Black Butler -Emerald Witch Arc- has it all. All the way from start to the finish in Black Butler -Emerald Witch Arc- Ep. 13 “His Butler, Submerged”. It’s got comedy, drama, horror, and a shocking amount of bloody action. Seriously, people are getting their throats cut in these final episodes. They’re even burning to death. Yeah, their deaths are definitely not for the faint of heart here. If you’re an action junkie, you should be quite satisfied with the blood and violence here.
What’s that? You want more of that, you say? Well, I have a few suggestions here. Perhaps you might want to check out Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, Kaiju No. 8, DDDD, DAN DA DAN, Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online II, Zenshu, Blue Box, Solo Leveling, and/or even some episodes of Apocalypse Hotel? All of them contain some level of action in a variety of genres. That should satisfy your inner action junkie until the next arc of Black Butler begins. Whenever that happens, at least. At least we get a teaser for that, courtesy of the Undertaker and his mysterious workings.
