DAN DA DAN Season 2 Ep. 3 “You Won’t Get Away with This!” is basically a situation where all of the cast jump out of the frying pan and into the fire. However, this applies to all of the cast. Including the big angry snake-worm thing trying to eat them all. Let’s hope our heroes avoid becoming part of the food chain, all while playing a very literal death game of a football/soccer match.

Hard to tell if the frying pan or the fire is worse.

DAN DA DAN Season 2 Ep. 3 “You Won’t Get Away with This!” is the third episode (you can read my review of Ep. 1-2 here) of the second season of this action horror-comedy anime series. Said anime is the anime adaptation of the manga of the same name by Yukinobu Tatsu. Said anime also comes just seven months after the finale of the first season, which you can read about in my reviews of all 12 episodes of that first season here.

Science SARU (Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!Star Wars: Visions “Akakiri” and “TB-01”, Scott Pilgrim Takes Off) returns as the animation studio for this second season of the anime. Fūga Yamashiro returns as the director but is also now co-directing with Abel Góngora, with Hiroshi Seko also returning as the writer.

Synopsis

At least we get some pretty stylish action sequences out of it.

Alas, this second season of DAN DA DAN is still ongoing. In fact, DAN DA DAN Season 2 Ep. 3 “You Won’t Get Away with This!” only just premiered on July 17, 2025 on Crunchyroll, Netflix, and Hulu as of this writing. Thus, here’s the official synopsis of this episode from Crunchyroll if you wish to avoid spoilers below:

“Jiji’s body becomes possessed by the Evil Eye.”

As well as the official Crunchyroll synopsis of the anime as a whole below:

“When high schooler Momo, from a family of spirit mediums, first meets her classmate Okarun, an occult geek, they argue—Momo believes in ghosts but denies aliens, and Okarun believes in aliens but denies ghosts. When it turns out both phenomena are real, Momo awakens a hidden power and Okarun gains the power of a curse. Together, they must challenge the paranormal forces threatening their world.”

Well, it’s good for us as an audience for the style points.

It’s actually quite tough to decide whether the story or the animation of DAN DA DAN Season 2 Ep. 3 “You Won’t Get Away with This!” is the best part about it. All because both of them are pretty good.

The part most people might find the most visually impressive is the animation though. Science SARU’s animation team is really pulling out all the stops to make the battles in this episode look both stylish and horrific at the same time. With a lot of that style coming from Jiji, or rather, the Evil Eye possessing his body at the moment. It’s still pretty clear that Jiji is somewhere in there though, because his primary attack is a hyper-agile and fast football (or soccer as it’s only known in the US). As a football/soccer fan, it makes perfect sense for Jiji/Evil Eye to use, while also giving us a bit of foreshadowing in the process. The fact that Okarun can run at super-speeds and that Momo can manipulate objects and grab onto things with her telekinesis only makes the resulting brawl all the more entertaining to watch.

Of course, there’s also the worm itself as the ultimate boss in the fight. Ironically, this makes the whole battle with Jiji/Evil Eye an act of dark comedy. Jiji is just busy fighting Okarun and Momo, all with the big worm just spraying poison into the air and waiting for the fight to end to devour them all. The fact that the worm is outwitted by Momo is quite possibly the cherry on top of this cake, proving once more that she’s the real brains of this operation.

This is part of why the story is so good. That mix of horror and comedy just keeps you coming back for more, as well as making you alternate between gripping the edge of your seat and busting your gut in laughter. Yukinobu Tatsu seems to be pretty good at that mix of action, comedy, and horror here.

You don’t want to be on the receiving end of either that fist or that gaze.

Those of you with more…tender sensibilities might notice that for the entire fight, Jiji and Okarun are both half-nude. No, it’s not depicted in an explicit manner. It’s just that they both happened to be in that state prior to the fight beginning. It’s actually a bit refreshing, because the female main characters are frequently in a state of undress as well. Thus, having the male main characters be in a similar state feels like it’s equalizing the situation a bit. Your mileage might vary though, so make of that what you will.

Aside from that, DAN DA DAN Season 2 Ep. 3 “You Won’t Get Away with This!” is noticeably devoid of serious gore. There is some blood being drawn in this episode. However, there’s nothing like hardcore gore in this episode. Not like the previous episode and the numerous corpses.
