Nyaight of the Living Cat Ep. 3-4 basically tells us the story of how the catpocalypse began. As you can tell, this makes the beginning of the anime a serious case of in media res. It works very well for this anime though, because we now get some quieter moments to build up the story and characters after those explosively kitty-tastic first two episodes.
Nyaight of the Living Cat Ep. 3-4: Details in Brief

Nyaight of the Living Cat Ep. 3-4 are the upcoming third and fourth episodes of this post-catpocalyptic horror comedy anime series of kitty proportions. Said anime is the anime adaptation of the manga of the same name by writer Hawkman and artist Mecha-Roots.
Division One of studio OLM (Zoids Wild Zero, Dark Gathering, Beyblade X) is the animation studio/production team behind this anime. Crunchyroll is the company licensing it for its global release. Takashi Miike (Dead or Alive, 13 Assassins) is the chief director of this anime, with Tomohiro Kamitani as the assistant director, and Shingo Irie as the writer.
Synopsis
Alas, Nyaight of the Living Cat Ep. 3-4 have not yet premiered yet on Crunchyroll. Thus, you all shall get the official synopsis of the anime as a whole, also from Crunchyroll as a teaser for the story below:
“Run! The adorable cats are here. In 20XX, the world is dominated by cats. A virus which turns anyone who touches a cat into a cat has spread into a worldwide nyandemic. Cats rub against people, turning them into cats. Can humanity fight their urge to pet cats to survive in this cat-ridden world?”
Nyaight of the Living Cat Ep. 3-4: The Good

Nyaight of the Living Cat Ep. 3-4 is the direct contiuation of the first two episodes in terms of story, which means that if you liked that story, then you’ll like the story in the third and fourth episodes as well. Mostly because it’s just as chock-full of kitties as the first two episodes. Kitties that are impossibly agile and strong enough to do things like climb a skyscraper, and yet are just super-friendly kitties that just want to play and rub themselves against humans. The fact that it spreads the disease that turns people into kitties is not their concern.
Another thing that’s not the kitties’ concern: the fact that the humans are just so incredibly, ridiculously stupid. The entire human cast clearly have nothing but kitties in between their ears, and the very thought of harming a kitty is anathema to their very existence. Even the prime minister and his staff aren’t immune to this when you see that their war room is crammed full of random silly kitty photos. And yet, the stupidity isn’t annoying the way you think it would. The entire anime just doesn’t take itself seriously at all. To the point where you just laugh at the stupidity because it’s just one more bit of silliness in an amusingly silly anime. Honestly, the entire story of Nyaight of the Living Cat so far is one where you enjoy it purely for the comedy…and the kitties, of course.
All with some surprisingly good animation to boot. At least, whenever OLM Division One do use traditional hand-drawn animation for the anime. In those cases, the animation quality is very good. This is especially true when they put that skill to use drawing kitties in close-ups. The traditionally hand-drawn animation perfectly captures the fluffiness and cuteness of the kitties. It does that so perfectly that you wish it could be like that for the rest of the scenes.
Nyaight of the Living Cat Ep. 3-4: The Bad

Alas for Nyaight of the Living Cat Ep. 3-4, it shares the same animation inconsistencies as the first two episodes. This is most noticeable with the kitties. Some of the kitties are hand-drawn, but most of them are CGI kitties. Now granted, the CGI kitties are actually pretty decent. However, it produces a highly clashing animation style when the two types of kitties are together in the same scene. It’s that clash of animation that can be incredibly jarring, and thus gives you a strong sense of kitty dissonance that can be a bit off-putting.
The animation inconsistencies doesn’t just stop at the kitties though. It even extends to the food. Now granted again, this anime isn’t a food-centric one, so I don’t expect the food to look good. However, there is a notable scene in which one of the characters is served a delicious-looking French toast, complete with beautiful textures and powdered sugar. However, when the character cuts it open, the inside is nothing but a solid yellow blob. It’s that contrast between the beautiful exterior and the butter-like interior that’s symbolic of the anime’s animation as a whole.
Lastly, if you’re not fond of un-serious anime, then Nyaight of the Living Cat as a whole isn’t the show for you. You can tell the anime doesn’t take itself seriously when the helicopter crews don’t realize that helicopters are loud…even though they’re flying the things. And of course, no violence against kitties is allowed, and even the humans don’t get seriously injured. If you want blood and violence, then might I suggest watching Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, Kaiju No. 8, DDDD, DAN DA DAN, Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online II, Zenshu, Solo Leveling, Black Butler, and/or even a few episodes of Apocalypse Hotel? Those anime should have more than enough of both to satisfy your inner action junkie.
