Spy x Family Season 3 finally begins its long-awaited run with Ep. 38 “Berlint Panic | The Informant And Nightfall”. And nearly two years after the finale of Season 2 to boot. Fortunately though, this third season delivers for its fans, giving us that combination of slice of life fun and the spy action that this anime is best known for. Indeed, this entire two-part episode is a great demonstration of both, giving us much anticipation for the rest of the season.

With an appropriate key art to boot.

Spy x Family Season 3 Ep. 38 “Berlint Panic | The Informant And Nightfall” is the first episode of the third season of this spy action-comedy anime, and the 38th overall in the series. Said anime is the anime adaptation of the ongoing Spy x Family manga series by Tatsuya Endo.

Wit Studio (Attack on Titan S1-3, Ranking of Kings, Suicide Squad Isekai) and Cloverworks (The Promised NeverlandBocchi the Rock!, My Dress-Up Darling) remains the animation studios behind this anime, just as they have for the first two seasons. In fact, longtime readers at THS will recall that we reviewed the first and second seasons, plus the Spy x Family Code: White anime film as well. The staff is a bit different this time around though. Yukiko Imai has replaced Kazuhiro Furuhashi and Takahiro Harada as the director, but all other staff are reprising their roles.

Synopsis

The little creature in action once again.

Alas, Spy x Family Season 3 has only just recently begun its run. In fact, Ep. 38 “Berlint Panic | The Informant And Nightfall” only just made its debut on October 4, 2025 on Crunchyroll and Hulu. Thus, to avoid spoilers, here’s the synopsis of the episode from Crunchyroll:

“The Forgers enjoy a day off while Nightfall hires Franky to help her on a mission.”

And just for this opening episode of the season, in case you have no idea what Spy x Family is even about, then here’s the synopsis of the anime as a whole, also from Crunchyroll:

“World peace is at stake and secret agent Twilight must undergo his most difficult mission yet—pretend to be a family man. Posing as a loving husband and father, he’ll infiltrate an elite school to get close to a high-profile politician. He has the perfect cover, except his wife’s a deadly assassin and neither knows each other’s identity. But someone does, his adopted daughter who’s a telepath!”

Anya is just as excited for this as we are.

To start with: the news about Spy x Family Season 3 already has me giddy as a longtime fan of both the manga and the anime, with all of that promising Season 3 to be more of the spy action-comedy we’ve come to know and love. Fortuantely, Spy x Family Season 3 Ep. 38 “Berlint Panic | The Informant And Nightfall” delivers on that promise in spades…or rather, in grapple loaders.

The story of the first segment is in fact a slice of life family comedy as the Forger family enjoys a festival, especially Anya Forger (voiced by Atsumi Tanezaki (JP) and Megan Shipman (EN)) when it comes to the food. However, it then suddenly turns into an action-comedy-drama when Anya reads her precognitive dog Bond’s (voiced by Kenichirou Matsuda (JP) and Tyler Walker (EN)) mind and sees a badly stressed construction worker going on a rampage in the aforementioned tracked grapple loader.

It provides the perfect backdrop for Loid Forger/Twilight (voiced by Takuya Eguchi (JP) and Alex Organ (EN)) to demonstrate that he somehow can operate a grapple loader with enough proficiency to duel the rogue construction worker’s own grapple loader, as well as providing Yor Forger/Thorn Princess (voiced by Saori Hayami (JP) and Natalie Van Sistine (EN)) the opportunity to show off her superhuman speed and strength by rescuing an innocent bystander and his terrified dog. It’s that combination of family fun and demented action that makes this part iconic of the anime, even though this entire segment is an anime-original.

Part Two: The Spy Action

Not to mention the Forger family as a whole.

The second segment though is entirely canon, featuring Fiona Frost/Nightfall (voiced by Ayane Sakura (JP) and Lindsay Seidel (EN)) and Franky Franklin (voiced by Hiroyuki Yoshino (JP) and Anthony Bowling (EN)) as they go on a hilariously deadly serious spy adventure together. This segment in particular really shows off the espionage side of the story in the kind of action-comedy way that Tatsuya Endo is best known for in this story, with both segments providing us with a taste of both sides of the story. It shows just how well this vignette-style episode format really works for this anime.

All of course with some quality animation on Wit Studio’s and CloverWorks’ part. The animation is incredibly smooth, with characters feeling like they’re walking around in a decently high budget anime film. It’s especially noticeable in things like Anya messily eating ice cream, and it smearing all over her mouth. There is so much attention to detail there that you can’t help but long for ice cream yourself in response.

Spy x Family Season 3 Ep. 38 “Berlint Panic | The Informant And Nightfall”: The Bad

I can’t decide whether those disguises are good or bad.

I do have a single complaint though, and that has to do with the recap at the beginning of Spy x Family Season 3 Ep. 38 “Berlint Panic | The Informant And Nightfall”. Now granted, it only lasted about a minute, so it’s a minor issue. However, it does feel extremely redundant. Longtime fans of the anime will already be aware of the premise, and new fans have basically a full understanding of what the anime is all about after watching that first segment. The minute spent on that recap could’ve been spent on additional content in my honest opinion, but your mileage may vary here.

Aside from that, if you want more action stories like in this episode, then I might suggest checking out Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no YaibaKaiju No. 8DDDDDAN DA DANSword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online IIZenshuBlue BoxSolo LevelingBlack Butler, and/or Nyaight of the Living Cat. Conversely, if you liike the slice of life bits, then might I suggest watching Senpai is an OtokonokoApocalypse HotelSpice and Wolf: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf, The Ancient Magus’ Bride, and/or My Dress-Up Darling? You can also check out a little story about Crunchyroll’s preview screening to see what they have here in the Fall 2025 season.
