This means everyone you know and love/hate are going to come back, with some familiar new faces incoming to boot. The gang’s finally all back for one last rodeo.

TRIGUN STARGAZE Ep. 1 “Wandering Days” is the very first episode of the second and final season of this reboot anime, with TRIGUN STAMPEDE serving as the first season. Said reboot anime is the reboot of the 1998 Trigun anime series, which itself was the anime adaptation of the manga of the same name by Yasuhiro Nightow.

Studio Orange (BEASTARS, Land of the Lustrous) returns as the animation studio behind this anime. Interestingly though, Kenji Mutō is not returning as the director, and none of the writers from TRIGUN STAMPEDE are returning either. Instead, Masako Satō will be the director, with Kazuyuki Fudeyasu as the writer. Tatsuya Kato returns as the composer though.

The opening theme song for TRIGUN STARGAZE is “Picaresque Hero” by ano. Meanwhile, “Stardust” by FOMARE is the ending theme song.

Synopsis

The familiar faces, but just a bit different from how you knew them.

Alas, TRIGUN STARGAZE hasn’t even made its debut yet as of this writing. In fact, Ep. 1 “Wandering Days” will make its debut on January 10, 2026 exclusively on Crunchyroll. Thus, all we have for you is the official synopsis of this anime series as a whole from Crunchyroll, which you can read below:

“It’s been two and a half years since the Lost JuLai tragedy laid waste to an entire city and engulfed the whole planet in chaos. Meryl continues her search for Vash with her new younger sidekick, Milly, and runs into Wolfwood along the way. Meanwhile, Vash has taken the new name Eriks and is living in hiding in a backwater town. When he receives an abrupt visit and SOS from the third ship they call home, he acts swiftly in order to protect those dear to him. However, as soon as the planet receives good news from the far reaches of outer space, the one-winged angel returns to wreak havoc and despair. Fates collide to forge a final conclusion for the panicked planet.”

At long last, she finally makes her appearance!

If you liked TRIGUN STAMPEDE, then you will like TRIGUN STARGAZE Ep. 1 “Wandering Days”. In fact, if you liked the original 1998 Trigun anime, then you will like this first episode of the new season as well. It’s this episode when we finally see some of the most plot-critical characters from Yasuhiro Nightow’s original story, with Milly Thompson being the most visible face here. As one of the original main characters of the series, her physically imposing presence, her canon-accurate kind and ditzy (but with surprising depth) personality, and the egregious use of her “Stun Gun” helps cement the idea that this second season is much more true to canon than the first season. And indeed, the characters and story as a whole are all surprisingly faithful to canon, with events mirroring the story Nightow wrote, but with this reboot’s own flavor to it.

This flavor includes some very well-animated CGI, as befitting Studio Orange: an animation studio well-known for the high standards of their CGI animation. That CGI animation results in some very smooth movements from the characters, as well as some very good-looking visuals. The emphasis on very wide camera angles, often from high angles to show both the gorgeous desert scenery and with occasional shots of deep space, also makes the anime feel like an epic sci-fi film like Dune, while also showcasing the artwork done by Orange’s animators.

Tatsuya Kato’s music also contributes to that feeling that you’re watching an epic sci-fi film in anime form. Said music ranges from Western tunes to chants in song form. It gives off a feeling something like a combination of the TV series Firefly and the video game franchise Homeworld.

TRIGUN STARGAZE Ep. 1 “Wandering Days”: The Bad

Alas, it will be a while before his hair is its usual spikiness.

Alas, if you didn’t like TRIGUN STAMPEDE, then you still might not like TRIGUN STARGAZE Ep. 1 “Wandering Days”. Especially if you just don’t like CGI anime in general. Yes, Studio Orange’s CGI animation is top-notch. Some of the best I’ve seen of any animation studio, really, and it’s why Orange is frequently called upon for good CGI animation for media like Star Fox Zero: The Battle Begins and Netflix’s Leviathan. However, if you don’t like CGI at all, regardless of whether it’s good or bad, then this is probably not the anime for you.
