Alchemised by SenLinYu is am interesting dark fantasy novel. Not least of which because it started life as a fanfic. Specifically: Manacled by the same author, a dark fantasy story that garnered over 10 million views on AO3 and received over 100,000 five-star ratings on Goodreads. Not to mention being a Harry Potter fanfic, of all things. Still, a whole bunch of people has some high hopes for it. It already has a first printing of 750,000 copies planned for its September 23, 2025 debut, with advance praise from The New York Times, Bustle, TODAY, The Washington Post, Business Insider and more. Thus, you can understand why we’re getting this bit of news.
Legendary Entertainment is proud to announce that that they have preemptively acquired the rights to Alchemised by SenLinYu. What are the rights for, you might ask? Why, Legendary plan on making a feature film based on the novel with those rights, of course. Alas, they give no further plans for us today. They do give us some words from SenLinYu themself in response to this, which you can read below:

Honestly, I have mixed feelings on this bit of news. On one hand, Alchemised sounds like it’s a fantastic read. On the other hand, it’s essentially an altered Harry Potter fanfic, and I have some misgivings about the franchise. Mostly due entirely to the original author. Still, a fanfic can be its own thing, just like this one. If it’s better than the source material, then it could be a worthy read, and in turn, make a worthy watch when that film finally comes out. Let’s hope it’s a good one, shall we?
