MAYA: Seed Takes Root has been a Kickstarter long in the making. It’s basically a science fantasy universe by creators acclaimed filmmaker Anand Gandhi (Ship of TheseusTumbbad) and award-winning game designer Zain Memon (Shasn), with a fascinatingly deep amount of worldbuilding. It’s already completed its Kickstarter campaign, and is now soon ready for launch as a brand new science fantasy novel. A novel that’s the first of a planned trilogy, no less..

In fact, the Department of Lore studio that’s publishing this novel is hyping it up in a big way. They’re proud to announce the upcoming launch of MAYA: Seed Takes Root with a launch trailer. Said trailer even features Hugo Weaving (The Matrix franchise, Captain America The First Avenger) as the voice of the narrator. You can hear his voice for yourself on YouTube, or just look below:

Jungle warfare in an alien jungle, from the looks of it.

As for when we’ll get to read MAYA: Seed Takes Root? Well, that’s the other good news. The book will make its debut on August 19, 2025. You can get a notification of its launch and how to get it directly from the book’s Kickstarter page.

Complete with a holographic book cover to boot.

From the looks of it, the Department of Lore (which still doesn’t even have an actual website as of this writing) have high hopes for MAYA: Seed Takes Root. With a very well-developed universe and interesting main characters for their first novel, as well as a fascinating plot revolving around immortality and some not-so-subtle references to the internet and social media, it certainly looks like a recipe for a hit multi-media franchise. Of course, that’s assuming that this first book goes over well with its Gen Z target audience. That, alas, is something that we’ll have to see only when the book itself comes out. Fingers crossed, people.
