Nicholas Hoult might have the distinction of auditioning for Superman and ending up as Lex Luthor. In the upcoming Superman (2025) the actor ended up as Lex Luthor. That process might help him his role. He recently sat down with our friend Brandon Davis of Phase Hero to talk about the role and what the traits of Lex Luthor are.

Yeah, I think in some ways he views himself as the pinnacle of humanity. He’s worked hard, not only mentally but physically in everything to provide… And I think he sees himself as a humanist in some ways. He sees himself as the future and the Savior and sees, you know, humanity as being able to determine their own fate as opposed to metahumans and Superman.

And these people are unchecked, perhaps shouldn’t be able to control what happens to humans. And if they weren’t around, what would happen to us? So, there’s a progressive idea to him that’s an engine that’s, you know, really burning out. And then an emotionally, he’s carrying a lot of envy and rage, but he’s also self-aware of all those things. He’s not unaware of that.

So, yeah, it’s a mix of all those things and trying to make him somewhat understandable.
