We’ve known about a TV series based on The Conjuring for a while now, but we recently got news that there’s going to be a new showrunner and a team of accomplished writers behind the series. With the “last” film in the series in theaters now, dominating the box office, this new TV series has plenty of options it could go for. However, one place where we’re severely lacking in today’s TV market is the “monster-of-the-week” genre. The X-Files locked down that genre in the 90s and into the early 2000s. For whatever reason that market hasn’t been tapped back into in recent years. With the advent of streaming, it makes plenty of sense, but the real test is whether or not the series will be allowed the room to breathe that The X-Files had.

If they’re going for recasting or a prequel series with Ed and Lorraine Warren for TV, they have plenty of cases they can tap into to create a series. However, streaming seems to have only allowed 8-12 episode seasons, instead of the 30+ episodes that we got on TV in the past. That room to move and allow the characters to develop without having to always push the plot gave us fun moments that weren’t necessarily pivotal to the overall plot of the season.

That monster-of-the-week storytelling was what gave us some of the best moments of The X-Files. With the new showrunner and writers for The Conjuring, they all have experience working with Marvel TV series like Jessica Jones, WandaVision, Moon Knight, and others.

The Possibilities Are Endless With The Conjuring

There’s also another long-forgotten 90s series that The Conjuring could get inspiration from, Friday the 13th: The Series. Now, you might be asking yourself, “there was a Friday the 13th TV series?” And the answer would be: YES. The series didn’t really have much to do with the movie series featuring Jason Voorhees, but there were plans to have crossovers. The series followed antique store owners who had to recover cursed antiques. With the Annabelle series, there’s plenty of room for other cursed objects to make their way to The Conjuring. Friday the 13th: The Series was awesome to see just what cursed object would make its way to the show each week.

For the writers and showrunner of The Conjuring, they have plenty of work ahead of them, but maybe looking to the past for inspiration can be the secret sauce they’re looking for. This of course, also asks whether the new X-Files series coming from Ryan Coogler could just take up that spot in our horror hearts. If they both do well, we could really be in for something special on our TV screens.

If you give us a Conjuring series with 20+ episode seasons and a monster-of-the-week, you could have a generational show just like The X-Files was for the 90s.
