Universal Pictures has acquired Portrait Of God, a spec script from filmmaker Dylan Clark that expands on his viral horror short of the same name. Deadline is reporting that Sam Raimi and Jordan Peele are collaborating to produce the film. Portrait of God was written by Clark and Joe Russo (The Inheritance, Soul Mates).
Plot details are unknown, but if it follows the short in any way, it’ll center on a young woman who’s heavily religious and finds out the answer to the question “What does God look like?” She studies a work of art titled “Portrait of God”, some people can see a person in the darkness, some can’t.
It’s been watched more than 8.6 million times on YouTube since it was released in August 2022. Monkeypaw Productions will produce through their first-look deal at Universal with Raimi aand Romel Adam producing with Ghost House Pictures, and Joe Russo. Chris Rosati will executive produce, with Sam Evenson to co-produce. Jose Cañas will oversee the project for Ghost House, with Executive Vice President of Production Development Sara Scott overseeing the project for Universal.
Dylan Clark made a name for himself with horror shorts on YouTube that focus on the intersection between horror and religion. He’s also working on a feature adaptation of his short story Story Time.
