Finding Joy is delighting viewers on Prime Video this week. That Hashtag Show had the pleasure to talk with Shannon Thornton, Brittany S. Hall, and Inayah as their Holiday movie found the airwaves. We discussed working with Tyler Perry on Finding Joy. It seems like their characters each found a way to channel their friend group dynamics away from the cameras.

Thornton said, “This movie is lighthearted and it does make you feel good. There’s so much going on in the world that’s stressful. So, it gives people a nice break from all of that. I think it’s much needed right now. But, it was such a good time. We had a blast shooting this and working with Tyler Perry was amazing.”

Finding Joy stars talk friend groups and personal experience

Brittany S. Hall’s Ashley is the level headed friend to Littia (Inayah) and Joy (Thornton.) But, does she play that role in real-life? The actress doesn’t think so! But, she did use her personal friendships as a model for how to positively influence her friends when they’re going through big decisions in their lives.

“You know what’s crazy? In my friend group, I’m usually. I’m really not. I have more level-headed friends than me,” Hall admitted. “So it was great to be that character in this friend group, because in my friend group, I’m Shannon [Thornton]. I’m our Joy. Yeah, like I’m delusional. I just want to fall in love. And my friends are like, ‘girl, not that one, not that one.’ And I don’t listen!”

Inayah’s Littia is an absolute hoot. And, her experience in her friend group actually lines-up with her character on-screen. Apparently, she keeps it real! Inayah said, “You know because I’m that friend in my real circle in real life. So it was, it was very easy to tap into Littia’s character. Because I’m the one that’s usually like, ‘Girl, what’s wrong with you!’ You know? It wasn’t hard to tap into that character.”
