“Washington Black” is now streaming on Hulu. Its a series created by Selwyn Seyfu based on the novel by Esi Edugyan that follows the early life of George Washington “Wash” Black. With this series that travels through different points in his life around the world, the series is accompanied by an adventurous sound that compliments Wash and everything that he goes through.
A CHAT WITH COMPOSER CAMERON MOODY
With the release of “Washington Black”, I spoke with composer Cameron Moody. At just 22 years of age, Moody is making history as one of the youngest composers ever to score a 20th Century Television series. But age “ain’t nothing but a number” as Moody prefers classic forms of composition, specifically in finding his sound for the project in an orchestra.
In our conversation, we chat about where his love for the classical form of composing stems from. He shares some interesting notes about how the music in the series follows the character rather than the environment around him and how it helps to continue to get to know Wash. Finally in one of my favorite questions we talk about his experience in working in front of a live Orchestra on a Hollywood soundstage.
