We are just a few days away from the 53rd Annual Saturn Awards taking place on Sunday March 8, in Los Angeles. The Academy of Science Fiction Fantasy, and Horror have revealed additional special honors that will be presented at the event.

THE DR. DONALD A. REED FOUNDER’S AWARD

The Dr. Donald A. Reed Founder’s Award will be presented to George Lucas. This award carries special Saturn significance as it reflects the mission of Saturn Awards founder, Dr. Donald A. Reed. He had created the Academy at a time when genre entertainment was too often dismissed. Lucas’ foundational impact on genre storytelling and cinematic innovation reshaped modern entertainment and permanently expanded the possibilities of imaginative filmmaking.

THE ROBERT FOSTER ARTIST’S AWARD

The Robert Foster Artist’s Award will be presented to Terry Matalas. According to the Academy, this award was named in honor of Robert Foster, who’s career reflected integrity and lasting craft. The award recognizes artists whose work leaves a meaningful and enduring imprint on the genre landscape. Matalas has eared widespread acclaim as a writer, producer, and showrunner. Leading series like “12 Monkeys” and “Star Trek: Picard”. Matalas’ work exemplifies the spirit of this award. It will be presented by Emmy-Nominated actor Paul Bettany.

THE SATURN AWARDS’ SPOTLIGHT AWARD

The Spotlight Award is presented on special occasions to a film or series deemed worthy of recognition. In this case it celebrates Prime Video’s “The Boys”. Described by the Academy as “a fierce, fearless, darkly hilarious superpowered satire that transformed genre television into a cultural force defined by consequence, character, and biting relevance.
