This weekend’s box office was a tight race at the top, with psychological thriller Him edging out competition for the number one spot. Horror holdover The Conjuring: Last Rites kept audiences on edge in its third week, while anime juggernaut Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Infinity Castle continued its powerful run. Meanwhile, Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale and Stephen King’s The Long Walk found steady footing mid-chart.
Him Opens on Top

Debuting with $13.5 million, Universal’s Him narrowly claimed the weekend crown. The thriller benefited from strong intrigue in its marketing and Jordan Peele’s association. While not a breakout blockbuster, the opening suggests that this could be a sleeper hit during October with the Halloween season.
The Conjuring: Last Rites Still Haunting
In its third weekend, Warner Bros.’ The Conjuring: Last Rites conjured up another $13.0 million, nearly matching Him’s debut. That brings its domestic cume to an impressive total so far, cementing its position as one of the franchise’s most resilient entries. Its hold demonstrates a continued appetite for supernatural scares.
Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Stays Strong
Aniplex’s Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Infinity Castle followed closely with $11.9 million in its sophomore weekend. The anime epic dropped from its massive debut but continues to draw strong turnout from fans, proving the enduring box office muscle of the Demon Slayer brand in North America.
Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale and The Long Walk Tied
Rounding out the top five, Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale and Lionsgate’s The Long Walk each posted $6.3 million in their second weekends at the box office. The period drama continued to court its devoted audience, while the Stephen King adaptation showed steady, if modest, appeal among genre fans. Their neck-and-neck performance added some extra intrigue to the lower ranks of the chart.
Next Weekend’s Preview
Next weekend’s box office will see the release of Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie, One Battle After Another, and The Strangers: Chapter 2.
One Battle After Another will likely come out on top. It’s tracking for $24 million to $34 million and will likely land somewhere around $28 million. It has a lot of recognizable names behind and in front of the camera; and the movie has been gaining some traction as critical applause has been coming out.
Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie is tracking for $20 million to $30 million. There’s not much in the way of child-friendly fare at the theatres right now, so it’ll likely place second with $22 million. It’s not a well-known IP, so it may struggle to find an audience.
The Strangers: Chapter 2 is tracking for $5 million to $9 million. It’ll likely make around $7 million and will likely place fourth or fifth depending on how the other holdovers from this week drop off.
As always, we’ll find out next week.
