This weekend at the box office, Focus Features’ Bugonia debuted to wide release, surpassing expectations, while holdovers from previous weeks held on strong
Regretting You Holds Strong in Week Two
Paramount’s Regretting You continued its steady run, earning $8.1 million in its second weekend. The modest drop shows that strong word-of-mouth is paying off, with audiences still connecting to its emotional core and grounded storytelling. Colleen Hoover adaptations are quickly becoming a strong haul at the box office for their target audience.
Black Phone 2 Keeps Scaring Up Business
Universal’s Black Phone 2 added another $8 million this weekend, bringing its total haul to just under $60 million. The Ethan Hawke-led thriller remains a reliable performer for Blumhouse as Halloween energy lingers in theatres. Even with new competition creeping in, the sequel’s creepy tone and simple scares are keeping audiences coming back for more.
Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc Loses Some Steam But Stays Sharp
After slashing its way to first place last week, Sony’s Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc pulled in $6 million in its sophomore outing. That’s a respectable hold for a niche anime release, showing the fanbase’s strong loyalty. While casual viewers may have moved on, the film’s mix of violent spectacle and heartfelt character drama keeps fans filling seats.
KPop Demon Hunters Finds Life Internationally
Debuting in eleventh place domestically with $5.3 million, Sony’s animated fantasy KPop Demon Hunters is performing better overseas, especially in Asian markets. Its colourful blend of action, music, and fantasy has resonated with younger audiences, even if domestic numbers remain modest. It’s a small start, but the film could build momentum through streaming and international box office in the coming weeks.
Bugonia Expands Nationwide to Strong Results

Yorgos Lanthimos’ Bugonia made an impressive leap into wide release, earning $4.8 million this weekend. Following a strong limited rollout, the film continues to draw cinephiles intrigued by its unsettling tone and sharp social satire. The movie was not expected to do as well as the Back To The Future 40th Anniversary re-release, but it managed to surpass it. With glowing reviews and awards buzz beginning to build, it’s shaping up to be one of the more daring success stories for Yorgos Lanthimos and of the fall season.
Next Weekend Predictions
All eyes are on 20th Century Studios’ Predator: Badlands, which is tracking between $20 million and $29 million for its debut. Despite the franchise’s name recognition, awareness remains surprisingly low; marketing has been limited and online chatter is minimal. Given those factors, a realistic projection would be closer to $22 million. That would still mark a decent start for the long-running sci-fi series, and put it in first next week; though it’ll be well below the franchise’s past highs.
As always, we’ll check in next week.
