John Rambo is ready for a new fight with Noah Centineo targeted to star. Deadline reports that the Street Fighter star is being circled for the Rambo origins picture. Millennium Media is in the driver’s seat for John Rambo. Jalmari Helander is attached to direct from a script written by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani. If everything goes well, John Rambo could begin filming as early as 2026. Thailand is being described as the location for that first bit of filming.
The reporting indicates that Lionsgate is in pole position to acquire the John Rambo package. This makes sense because the studio was at the helm for the last two times we’ve seen the character on-screen. Helander also has an existing relationship with Lionsgate. As one would expect from an origin story, the plot is suspected to involve a younger Rambo during the Vietnam War. David Morell’s novel “First Blood” will probably serve as a big inspiration for the new movie. As of the time of writing, Sylvester Stallone is not involved with the project.

Earlier this year, Deadline reported that a new Rambo project was on the way. Millennium Media is no stranger to a little bit of action. Their credits include Hitman’s Bodyguard, Expendables and the “Has Fallen” franchise. So, the anticipation for what they can do with a certifiable cinematic icon is high. Millennium President Jonathan Yunger previously offered his thoughts on such a big acquisition.
“We are thrilled to introduce a fresh new chapter to the Rambo legacy. This project is a tribute to one of the best franchises in movie history that will appeal to both longtime fans and new audiences alike,” he wrote. “With Jalmari Helander at the helm — a filmmaker of exceptional vision and energy — we’ve found the perfect director to deliver a high-concept action-packed experience.”
