As a huge fan of Sailor Moon and Magic Knight Rayearth, I’ve always loved stories about badass girls battling evil, whether it’s by moonlight, with kaiju, or now, in the world of K-pop! In Netflix’s KPop Demon Hunters, we meet Huntrix, a powerhouse K-pop girl group made up of Rumi, Mira, and Zoey. By day, they’re selling out stadiums. By night, they secretly hunt demons to protect their fans from supernatural threats. However, when their greatest enemy unleashes The Saja Boys, a rival boy band of actual demons, who are out to steal both souls and fans, Huntrix must band together like never before to save the world.

I loved everything about KPop Demon Hunters, from the stunning animation to the addictive K-pop soundtrack and the heartfelt story about fear, belonging, friendship, and love. The film had me completely hooked within the first 30 seconds. I found myself picking my favorite Huntrix member (Rumi, in case you’re wondering) and singing all the songs.

Let’s Talk KPop Demon Hunters Animation and Music!

When it comes to the animation, I especially loved the design of the demons. They looked like something straight out of old folklore, with a hint of claymation that made them feel both eerie and playful. But then we meet Jinu, the leader of The Saja Boys, and everything changed. My first cartoon crush was Darian (Tuxedo Mask/Mamoru Chiba) from Sailor Moon, but honestly, Jinu might have just surpassed him. The way the animators gave him that perfect mix of swag, charm, and just the right amount of emotional unavailability (like all my real-life crushes) had me swooning.

Now, let’s talk about the music. KPop Demon Hunters doesn’t just throw in a few catchy pop songs and call it a day. The music is woven into the fabric of the story. Each track feels purposeful, helping to drive the story forward. The characters are given their own “heart songs,” from the electric opening number to the emotional weight of “Golden,” where Mira struggles to hide her true self. One of the standout moments is the beautifully vulnerable duet between Mira and Jinu, which adds real depth to both their arcs.

If you’re wondering how the film nails the authentic K-pop vibe, it’s because the music features original tracks crafted by top industry talent like Teddy Park (The Black Label), Danny Chung, KUSH, and more. The soundtrack even includes a special track, “Takedown,” performed by TWICE members Jeongyeon, Jihyo, and Chaeyoung. K-pop isn’t just in the film’s title; it’s the heartbeat of the story.
