[Warning – contains minor spoilers for the Peacemaker Season 2 finale. Read on at your own risk.] Season 2 of Peacemaker has been an unexpectedly emotion run, culminating in last night’s equally emotionally-charged finale. Throughout the season, John Cena has more than proven his acting chops, shaking off the stigma of the wrestler-turned-actor-who-can’t-act trope. At the same time, creator James Gunn didn’t shy away from the shock and comedy that’s also made the series so fun. What better way to finish the season than with a New York Comic-Con (NYCC 2025) watch party…. With none other than Vigilante himself, Freddie Stroma!

We were lucky enough to attend the Peacemaker watch party (hosted by our own Brandon David) with Stroma, who admitted difficulty in watching himself on the screen despite his character’s popularity. He made an exception to watch “John and Jen [Jennifer Holland], because they are just so amazing!” Stroma isn’t wrong in that regard. The relationship between Chris (Cena) and Harcourt (Holland) has been the oft-times gut wrenchingly emotional heart of the show’s second season.
Peacemaker nails its sophomore season finale
Stroma talked about some of the highlights and surprises in the finale, including the “big reveal” that sent cheers through the crown in attendance. (We won’t spoil it too badly, but suffice it to say we’re getting another DC spy-organizational offshoot should Warner Brothers green-light Season 3). “I had no idea. You’ll have to educate me,” Stroma joked, drawing rolling laughter. He also spoke candidly about a particular line of dialogue in the Peacemaker season final that made him cringe. (You just have to watch.)
The finale left us with quite the cliffhanger. Chris’ fate is once again in question, with Flag Sr. (Frank Grillo) exacting his rage-fueled revenge on the man who killed his son. How will the 11th Street Kids react? I suppose we’ll just have to wait for Peacemaker Season 3. In the meantime, Stroma played coy about Vigilante’s future, claiming he doesn’t know if his character will appear in the next Superman movie. Here’s hoping.
All episodes of Peacemaker are now streaming in HBO|Max.
