The She-Devil with a Sword is back, and fiercer than ever.
Matilda Lutz (Revenge, Rings) takes up the mantle of Red Sonja in the highly anticipated reboot of the iconic comic book heroine, set to hit theaters nationwide on August 15th. Directed by MJ Bassett (Solomon Kane, Rogue), the film promises a gritty, action-packed reimagining of the beloved warrior. The film draws on the raw intensity and mythos that have defined Red Sonja for decades.
Set in a brutal, blood-soaked world ruled by tyranny, the story follows Red Sonja after she is captured, chained, and thrown into the fighting pits of a merciless empire. Battling for survival, she must rally an army of outcasts and rise against the villainous Dragan and his deadly bride, Dark Annisia. The trailer, released by Samuel Goldwyn Films, showcases stunning visuals, high-stakes combat, and the fiery spirit that has made Red Sonja a legend in comic book history.

Joining Lutz on-screen are Robert Sheehan (The Umbrella Academy) and Martyn Ford (F9: The Fast Saga). The duo will absolutely add depth and intensity to the film’s ensemble. Fans can get a first look and hear directly from the cast at San Diego Comic-Con! A Red Sonja panel featuring Lutz, Sheehan, and Ford will take place on Wednesday, July 24, at 5:30 PM PT in Ballroom 20 at the Convention Center.
Producers Mark Canton, Luke Lieberman, and Jonathan Yunger have all expressed excitement about the project’s long-awaited arrival. “The fans are ready, the movie is ready,” Lieberman said. “Those who know her will see the heart and fire they love.” Samuel Goldwyn Films President Peter Goldwyn echoed that sentiment: “We’re thrilled to be bringing Red Sonja to audiences across the nation.”
