Tribute Games is back in its comfort zone and it looks right at home. After popping up during the latest Nintendo Direct, Scott Pilgrim EX just got a full gameplay overview and it confirms one thing very clearly; this is not just another nostalgia replay. This is a full blown, Toronto stomping evolution of the series that knows exactly what fans want and is not afraid to remix the formula.

A Bigger, Wilder Take on Toronto

Scott Pilgrim EX drops players into a sprawling version of Toronto packed with video game references, familiar faces, and neighborhoods built for chaos. Unlike traditional beat em ups that push you in a straight line, this one opens the city up. You explore, you backtrack, and you take on quests handed out by NPCs scattered across the map. It is a brawler that actually wants you to look around.

The gameplay overview shows off shops, side challenges, and boss encounters that reward curiosity. Dig deep enough and you will uncover secrets and upgrades that meaningfully change how your character plays. This is still about punching vegans, demons, and robots into the pavement, but now there is structure and purpose behind the chaos.

A Deep Roster Built for Co Op Chaos

The playable roster pulls heavily from across the Scott Pilgrim universe. Scott and Ramona lead the charge, but they are far from alone. Roxie Richter, Lucas Lee, Matthew Patel, and fan favorite Robot 01 are playable, with one final character still under wraps. Each fighter has a unique move set inspired by their appearances across the franchise.

Four player co op lets everyone pick their favorite and build them into something dangerous. Combat leans hard into combos, upgrades, and environmental interaction. You are not just throwing fists either. You can grab whatever is lying around, from baseball bats to stranger items pulled straight out of Scott Pilgrim’s weirdest corners.

A New Story With Familiar DNA

The story kicks off when rival gangs kidnap Sex Bob omb and steal their instruments, pushing Scott and Ramona to fight across Toronto’s streets, beaches, and even time hopping detours to save the band, the city, and the world. It is ridiculous in exactly the right way.

Scott Pilgrim creator Bryan Lee O’Malley co wrote the story with the team at Tribute Games, and it shows in every beat. This is not a hollow tie in. It feels like a genuine continuation that understands the humor, the heart, and the excess that made the series hit in the first place.

Music, Style, and Release Details

Visually, the game leans hard into bold color and dense environments loaded with deep cut references. The soundtrack comes from Anamanaguchi, returning once again to bring that signature sound that fans instantly associate with Scott Pilgrim. It is loud, energetic, and perfectly tuned for extended brawls.

Scott Pilgrim EX launches March 3 on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2. If you were worried this was just another replay of familiar beats, the gameplay overview should put that fear to rest. This one is swinging for something bigger.
