This weekend’s box office delivered a major shake-up as two brand-new releases stormed the charts, claiming the top two spots. Action-thriller Weapons debuted at number one, with stronger than anticipated numbers; beating Disney’s Freakier Friday. Meanwhile, Marvel’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps slipped to third in its third weekend. As The Bad Guys 2 and The Naked Gun rounded out the top five.
Weapons Fires Off a Strong Start

In first place, Weapons scored an impressive $42.5 million in its opening weekend. The R-rated thriller capitalized on an aggressive marketing push and strong word-of-mouth among genre fans with a higher-than-anticipated opening. With little direct competition in the adult thriller space. It could maintain solid legs in the weeks ahead; though much will depend on how it holds over its sophomore frame.
Freakier Friday Swaps Into Second
Disney’s Freakier Friday came in second with $29 million. Leaning heavily on nostalgia and family-friendly appeal. The film drew in both returning fans of the original and a new generation. While it didn’t make its target box office amount and wasn’t a massive breakout. It’s a healthy launch that could benefit from strong weekday attendance as summer winds down.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps Slides to Third
After two weeks at number one, Marvel’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps dropped to third place with $15.5 million in its third weekend. While the drop is notable, the film has already crossed $400 million worldwide. It remains a key summer tentpole for Disney.
The Bad Guys 2 Continues Steady Run
Holding onto fourth place, The Bad Guys 2 earned $10.4 million in its second weekend. The animated sequel has proven to be a solid choice for families and should enjoy a longer theatrical run thanks to limited animated competition on the horizon.
The Naked Gun: Still Finding Laughs
In fifth place, Paramount’s The Naked Gun reboot pulled in $8.4 million during its second weekend. The film dropped as expected but continues to draw audiences looking for broad comedy, a rarity in today’s box office.
How Much Is Nobody 2 Expected To Make?
Nobody 2 hits theaters next weekend but is shaping up to be a more modest player. Tracking suggests an opening in the $8 million to $12 million range, but I predict it will land closer to $8 million. The original film opened to just $6 million in 2021 but later built a much larger audience on streaming. While the sequel has more awareness this time, it still isn’t positioned as a major box office draw. If it does crack the Top 5, it’ll likely be in the fifth place spot. With a packed Summer box office, that won’t be an easy feat for Hutch.
As always, we’ll find out next week.
