Prolific creator, writer, and director Taylor Sheridan is reportedly set to leave Paramount once his current deal expires. According to reports, Sheridan will make NBCUniversal his new creative home in three years, with a five-year overall deal beginning January 1, 2029, that also includes David Glasser’s, 101 Studios. The news, first reported by Puck, comes as a major surprise given Sheridan’s extensive and highly successful slate with Paramount, which includes Yellowstone, Landman, and Mayor of Kingstown. The deal encompasses both film and television, with the film deal set to start in 2026. Neither NBCUniversal nor Paramount has issued official comments on the reports. Major Shakeup For Paramount

Losing Sheridan to a rival media company is a major blow for Paramount and a coup for NBCUniversal. Sheridan has developed a multitude of series for Paramount, Yellowstone, and its spinoffs, Tulsa King, Lioness, Landman, and Mayor of Kingstown, and was considered their #1 asset. His series are the largest draws for Paramount+ and his departure will leave large shoes to fill. Just a few months ago, during a Press Event, Paramount CEO David Ellison called Sheridan “a singular genius with a perfect track record”. Paramount’s Chair of Direct-to-Consumer Cindy Holland also stated, “On Paramount+ today, we have a really great foundation, which is the Taylor Sheridan universe.”

It has been reported that the relationship between Sheridan and Paramount began to turn following Ellison’s $8 billion dollar purchase of the company in August. The purchase led to the departure of several of the executives Sheridan worked with at Paramount, as well as increased scrutiny of his production budgets.

It is certainly too soon to know what the future holds for Sherdian’s multiple active projects at Paramount. He has several active series, several of which have recently been renewed for additional seasons.
