The teaser trailer for Avengers: Doomsday is out in theaters with Avatar: Fire and Ash, and the first teaser for the film confirms a MASSIVE return from Chris Evans as Captain America/Steve Rogers. He’s returning in the Marvel event film that’s set to release in theaters on December 18th, 2026, exactly one year from today. The big twist of the teaser though, is that Cap has a kid.
Marvel is putting this teaser exclusively in theaters with Avatar: Fire and Ash, so if you want to see it in the best possible quality, you’ve gotta get out to a theater. So far this is the first teaser, but there are reportedly three others that will focus on characters from the movie in the coming weeks.
The teaser shows Steve Rogers’ life after the events of Avengers: Endgame, where he went back in time to be with Peggy Carter. There’s shots of him on a motorcycle, his Captain America helmet, and of course the newborn baby. It ends with the lines “Steve Rogers will return for Avengers: Doomsday.” Then a countdown clock begins that’s set to expire a year from now when the film hits theaters.

Of course, the new Captain America in the MCU is Sam Wilson, who was coronated in both the series The Falcon and The Winter Soldier and this year’s Captain America: Brave New World. This return likely means that Steve Rogers created an incursion in the timeline by messing with his place in time and going back to be with Peggy. We’ll have to see how it all fits together when Avengers: Doomsday releases in theaters on December 18th, 2026.
Avengers: Doomsday stars Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, and features a gigantic cast including Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Danny Ramirez, Sebastian Stan, Paul Rudd, Tom Hiddleston, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, Simu Liu, Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Florence Pugh, David Harbour, Wyatt Russell, Hannah John-Kamen and Lewis Pullman. From the “X-Men” universe, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Kelsey Grammer, Alan Cumming, James Marsden, Channing Tatum and Rebecca Romijn will cross over into the MCU.
