Marvel’s Iron Man and his Awesome Friends will be one of Marvel Studios’ oddest entries in their Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Not least of which is the target demographic. If you haven’t noticed yet from the art style, then here’s the kicker: this animated series is aimed at preschoolers. It’s a pretty interesting target demographic given that none of the main MCU films are anywhere near child-friendly. It will certainly be interesting to see just how Marvel Studios adapts that franchise into a child-friendly series.

Fortunately, it won’t be that long until we can see this chibi Marvel series. Marvel Studios is proud to announce their upcoming new preschooler-aimed series Marvel’s Iron Man and his Awesome Friends with a brand new trailer. That trailer also reveals that the series will premiere on Monday, Aug. 11, on Disney Jr. (8:30 a.m. ET/PT), and then later that same day on Disney Channel. Those of you who watch on Disney+ will have to wait for the next day on Tuesday, Aug. 12 to be able to stream all 10 episodes. You can watch the trailer for yourself on YouTube, or just look below:

I do question why the trio seems to taking on stereotypically traditional gender roles even at their age.

That trailer isn’t the only thing Marvel Studios is announcing though. They’re also announcing a list of guest stars that will lend their voice work to Marvel’s Iron Man and his Awesome Friends. The most notable of these guest stars will be John Stamos (voice of Iron Man/Tony Stark in Marvel’s Spidey and his Amazing Friends) as Howard Stark, Tony’s father. Other guest stars include:

Guest Stars

  • ESPN sportscaster and analyst Jessica Mendoza as Dottie Doubleday, the friendly owner of Dottie Doubleday’s Batting Cages
  • Jackée Harry as Granny Williams, Riri’s spunky grandmother who owns a mobile pie truck
  • Stephen Tobolowsky as Spencer Q. Sweets, the owner of the coolest candy shop in town
  • Lauren Tom as Helen Cho, Amadeus’ enthusiastic and loving mother
  • Gary Anthony Williams and Mo Collins as Nuts and Bolts, respectively, two of Ultron’s hilarious henchbots

Marvel’s Iron Man and his Awesome Friends Trying to Appeal to Preschoolers?

IRON MAN AND HIS AWESOME FRIENDS - “Great Expo-tations” (Disney)
HOWARD STARK, TONY STARK, AMADEUS CHO, RIRI WILLIAMS
IRON MAN AND HIS AWESOME FRIENDS – “Great Expo-tations” (Disney) HOWARD STARK, TONY STARK, AMADEUS CHO, RIRI WILLIAMS

Weirdly enough though, this isn’t Marvel Studios’ first foray into animation for children. The aforementioned Marvel’s Spidey and His Amazing Friends is but one example of them exploring that target demographic. Thus, it makes perfect sense why John Stamos is so eagerly to more or less reprise his old role as a father figure for the main characters. And given how that series got quite a bit of critical acclaim, we can probably hold out quite a bit of hope for this new kid’s show.
