Marvel Studios is preparing for their take on the X-Men. Variety reports that casting is on the way shortly. Thunderbolts* director Jake Schreier is behind the camera for X-Men. The reports say that Marvel Studios is targeting smaller actors for the roles in their superteam. (Both to keep the costs low and to have the actors age-up over time.) X-Men is a property where the cast hasn’t felt like true teenagers in a few on-screen installments, so that might be enough to separate this movie from the previous incarnations.
Another note on X-Men indicates that the movie is not the “mystery film” set for July of 2027. Marvel is holding that space for something else. Lots of speculation about a Black Panther sequel abounds. But, for now, we’ll all have to wait and see what they decide to put in that space. It sounds like things are getting real for X-Men. The speculation is only going to grow in volume from here!
Marvel eyes younger X-Men stars as casting process gets underway

Right now, Marvel Studios is riding the high of Fantastic Four: First Steps in theaters. Here at That Hashtag Show, our critic, Hunter Bolding, reviewed the latest MCU adventure. He lauded the visual stylings, especially the retrofuture aesthetic. And you really can’t discuss that film without pointing out Michael Giacchino’s staggering score powering every scene. Fantastic Four: First Steps is a visual stunner and a bright spot for Marvel headed into a heavy 2026.
“One of the characters that might not get mentioned as much here is not actually a character. Michael Giacchino’s score is a living, breathing being in this film,” Bolding argues. “It touches on all the right moments in the film, triumphant ones, emotional ones, hilarious ones, basically every emotion that Matt Shakman and Co. want you to feel, you feel it through Giacchino’s score. I don’t normally listen to film scores from comic book movies after seeing the movie, but this is one that I’m gonna throw on Spotify and run through again.”
“Lastly, the 60s aesthetic really makes the film feel special and separate from the current Earth/MCU we know,” he adds. “It all adds together to make The Fantastic Four: First Steps LOOK like a comic book. That might be what’s been missing is a bit of flair and things looking out of the ordinary to kick the genre back into gear.”
