G.I. Joe is one of the properties that Paramount has wanted to get off the ground since their twosome of movies in the 2010s. THR is reporting that Paramount is teaming up with Max Landis on a new film. He’ll be working on a new treatment for a feature adaptation of the Hasbro toy brand. In some stranger news, they’ve also hired Danny McBride to work on a separate script for G.I. Joe. This won’t be for two movies though, they’ll blend the scripts together for this new adaptation.

Developing two scripts at the same time is a strange occurrence in Hollywood, but it’s happened before. Paramount has done this in the past, but with two separate scripts for several movies like Star Trek and Transformers. But they’ve never seemingly mashed two scripts together.

Max Landis is the son of John Landis, one of the most illustrious directors in Hollywood’s history. He had success with 2012’s Chronicle and Bright from Netflix. He has also written for DC on a Superman mini-series comic. He was named in the MeToo movement in 2019 after an expose by The Daily Beast. No charges were ever filed against him.

It might seem like a strange choice to bring Danny McBride on board to write a Joe movie, but he’s got plenty of experience with genre affair like Halloween (2018) and working on shows like Eastbound & Down, Vice Principals, and The Righteous Gemstones for HBO.

The movie is seemingly in early development, so we’ll keep you updated on all things G.I. Joe as we get more news. This comes off previous news that Paramount wanted to develop a Transformers/Joe crossover movie, and even had a scene at the end of the latest Transformers live-action movie leading to it.
