“Man of Tomorrow” has found its villain, one that many had already speculated about, Brainiac. The news about Superman and Lex Luthor was revealed by The Wrap. Production for the “Superman” sequel is set to start in Atlanta in April. Currently the film is slated for a July 9, 2027 release.
In September, James Gunn had announced the quick turnaround Man of Steel sequel. This included an image of Superman and Lex Luthor, played by David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult, standing side by side, A possible alliance like this means Metropolis is about to experience a great threat that is going to fuel a temporary alliance. The best and obvious choice is Brainiac, and today we are learning that is the case.
Further fueling speculation, Gunn had also posted an image of the screenplay for “Man of Tomorrow”, featuring an illustration of the inside of a person’s head, exposing the brain. Brainiac is is yet to be featured in as an antagonist in a live-action feature film, but was featured in SyFy’s “Krypton” and we saw a version of him in “Smallville”. He has also been featured in several animated series and video games.

Brainiac was first featured in comics back in 1958’s, “Action Comics #242, created by Otto Binder and Al Plastino. The classic Superman villain is often seen as a green-skinned alien. It has advanced tech that he uses to travels space shrinking cities and collecting them. He rivals Superman’s strength and is immensely intelligent due to his knowledge of several different worlds. Brainiac has the ability to transfer his consciousness into new bodies. This in order to preserve his own life, something we’ve seen time and time again after defeat.

“Man of Steel” is being helmed by Gunn who is also serving as producer along with DC Studios’ Peter Safran. Along with Corenswet and Hoult, the film will also see Rachel Brosnahan, Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, Skyler Gisondo, Sara Sampaio, María Gabriela de Faría, Wendell Pierce, Alan Tudyk, Pruitt Taylor Vince, and Neva Howell, all reprise their roles.
