Paramount has landed the film rights to Call of Duty and now they’ve got a writer and director on board as well. Deadline is reporting that Taylor Sheridan and Peter Berg are joining on to produce, write, and direct the feature film. Based on Call of Duty, the pic will be designed to thrill its massive global fan base by delivering on the hallmarks of what players love about the games, while expanding the franchise to entirely new audiences.
David Glasser will produce the film alongside Berg and Sheridan.
This isn’t the first time that the two have teamed up on a film, they also previously worked on Hell or High Water and Wind River. Deadline is also reporting that Sheridan was waffling on whether or not to write the film or just produce, and he ended up choosing to write the film and produce.
Berg is known for films like Hell or High Water and Lone Survivor and Sheridan is also known for his military action prowess for something like Lioness and Yellowstone.
Call of Duty is the most successful video game franchise of all-time, passing up the likes of Madden and other huge sellers. It has been the #1 selling video game in the US for 16 consecutive years with over 500 million copies sold globally.
It remains to be seen what era of the series, if at all, that they’ll be adapting. There’s plenty of material to work from like the Modern Warfare series, Black Ops, and even the older World War II games.
