Denis Villeneuve has become one of the most famous directors of recent times. Mostly for his amazing work directing Dune and Dune: Part Two, which have become the most wildly popular adaptations of Frank Herbert’s novels in history. This is on top of his other sci-fi success stories like Arrival and Blade Runner 2049, which plants him firmly in the halls of the greatest sci-fi directors in history.
Thus, I think we can say that 007 is in good hands here. What do I mean by that? Well, Deadline has just announced that Amazon MGM Studios has hired Denis Villeneuve to direct the next entry in the James Bond film series. It’s not that much of a surprise either. Puck’s Matt Belloni has already named him directly as a likely candidate for the venture, and this bit of news only confirms it.
Alas, while we have no other info about this James Bond film, we do know that it will take a while. Denis Villeneuve is currently busy with the third Dune film, which won’t even begin shooting until Summer 2025, so it will be a while before we see this hypothetical James Bond film. However, we do know that at the very least, Villeneuve will be most eager for the project. You can read exactly why from his words below:

Honestly, fans of the Dune films should be quite excited at this news. It means that the cinematic vision that made Dune enter mainstream media so successfully will now turn towards the next adventures of 007. I’m already imagining gorgeous set pieces in exotic landscapes for James Bond to run, drive, and shoot through. What they will be is anyone’s guess, but knowing Denis Villeneuve, it’s likely going to be spectacular.
