WWE Superstar Drew McIntyre is heading to the land of the immortals in Highlander. Deadline was the first with the news that McIntyre is playing Angus MacLeod, the brother of Cavill’s character. The reboot also stars Russell Crowe, Marisa Abela, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, Max Zhang, and Dave Bautista. Chad Stahelski is directing a script from Michael Finch. The movie should follow the same storyline as the original film from 1986 that starred Christopher Lambert, Sean Connery, and Clancy Brown.

Production on the new film is slated to begin in early 2026 after a delay due to Cavill injuring himself in training.

UA’s Scott Stuber and Nick Nesbitt will produce the Highlander reboot alongside Neal H. Moritz; 87Eleven Entertainment, Stahelski’s production banner; Josh Davis of Davis Panzer Productions; and Louise Rosner. UA secured full rights to the 1986 original, with the potential to also develop a new series. Lionsgate developed the film.

Drew McIntyre is a Scottish professional wrestler who is a two-time WWE champion and 2020 Royal Rumble winner. MyIntyre previously made his feature debut in Lionsgate’s The Killer’s Game.
